about me
Hello! My name is Bev and my corner of the world is the piedmont of North Carolina with my husband (my childhood sweetheart and best friend!), 3 cuddly cats and one fabulously silly dog. I have two young-adult kids who live within an hour from my home and who have grown into amazing, compassionate, creative human beings. A perfect day for me is a day spent with them. My family is my heart.
I lived for many years in a beautiful, small town in New Jersey and in an even more beautiful, small town in the NC mountains. Both places taught me the value of community.
I’ve been enjoying other people’s blogs for a couple of years and I recently began simply bev as a place to share my photographs, jot down my thoughts, memories and some new fun discoveries while I move towards creating a simpler life.
About me:
I love to explore. Whether it’s a new restaurant, a museum or gallery, a new town, a state park, a fun looking shop, I’m ready to go.
I love the mountains and I love being near a body of water, whether it’s the wide sea or an intimate lake. I find that I’m able to center myself, breathe freely and recharge there.
Dolphins, owls, bears, turtles: these set my heart aflutter! The sound of a bluejay in the distance always warms me.
Wonderful art, pottery, hand-crafted jewelry, beautiful photography, music of most any genre all have a way of getting my creative juices flowing and I want to create, collect and share!
Charming old houses and classic VW bugs just make me smile. One day again I’ll be back living in a cozy, old house and have another bug in my driveway, ready to carry me on adventures.
I’ve always tried my best to treat people as I would want them to treat me. I’ve been heartbroken and disappointed more than a few times because of this, but I can’t imagine living any other way.
I have played a lot of different musical instruments in my life, starting when I was 6 years old and I still continue to play (fife, flute, oboe, saxophone, recorder, piano, uke, guitar….shall I go on?). Playing a bodhran, playing on my beloved 12-string guitar, singing harmonies in a band with my husband and two brothers – that’s the best!
I think that a day without a mug of creamy hot chocolate is like a ….. well, who in the world wants a day without a delicious hot chocolate? And I’m always on the lookout for the best chocolate chip cookie – one just like my grandma use to make. Haven’t found it yet, but I’m going to keep looking!
So I hope you enjoy stopping by simply bev often, a place where I can share my art, share my thoughts, share the work of others and share some bits and pieces of my days with you. I do welcome your thoughts and enjoy hearing what you are up to, so please feel free to comment or e-mail me!

As mvobession said, you sound a lot like me--in a good way.
Thanks for visiting my blog. It's always nice to meet a new person in the blog world.
So happy I stopped by today...it's a perfectly lovely Autumn day in New Jersey, which by coincidence always reminds me of Boone, which in turn reminds me of you & Dave. Thinking of you as I often do when the leaves turn & the sky is blue...
XO Patty
