Dave & I took a slow stroll in the park... and we came upon a steampunk picnic. You just never know what you're going to find when you get outside for a walkabout!

every picture tells a story
It was a great day for people-watching at the NC Museum of Art on Sunday. I took this photo in a room where the entire collection of original art for the book “Island Boy” was displayed. Barbara Cooney’s (who also illustrated Ox-Cart Man) work was completely charming and it was awesome that the art, from dust cover to end page, was there. The whole story was painted directly onto the walls above and below each framed page. When Dave & I walked into the small room we saw this family holding each other and slowly moving from piece to piece, while the woman on the far right read the story aloud. From their reaction at the end of the story, not to mention how close they were holding each other, this was a really special time for them. We stood quietly on the other side of the room so we wouldn’t disturb them. Really sweet.

oh, that sweet magnolia
When my kids were small we planted a magnolia tree in the backyard, to honor them and to literally put down roots in our (then) new home. It's grown quite tall now and every year, the tree gifts us with magnificent blooms. I head outside with my camera, and remember...

when women waken
Pretty pleased and honored to be approached by the publisher of the international women artists journal, "When Women Waken". They wanted this photo for their print & digital editions and of course, I said absolutely! (Btw, my DIL gave me these flowers. Thanks Janice!)
